I've never done it, only read about it. You log on to the Geocaching site and create a free account. Then basically all you need is a GPS device and you set out on a "treasure hunt". The "treasures" are kept in weather proof containers. You usually leave whatever you find, unless you want to take it and replace it with something of equal or more value. The exact rules and specifications are on the site. If you type in your zip code on the home page it will show you all of the spots closest to you. We have quite a few so I'm guessing you guys will have a ton. Sounds like a blast, I love to be outside!
